Role
The Financial Guidance Team, based in Student Services at the University of Northampton are looking to recruit two Student Money Mentors for 2026/27 academic year. If you have a passion for managing your money, creating exciting content on social media and supporting your fellow students with their money concerns – this role is for you!
You will be responsible for developing students’ budgeting & money management skills as well as raising awareness of financial support available from the university. This will include the creation of engaging content, particularly on social media that appeals to the student body audience.
You will also work with the Financial Guidance Team to provide support during events and campaigns.Your role will be to help enhance the level of support offered to students to ensure an excellent student experience at the University of Northampton.
Duties and responsibilities
• Develop engaging and student friendly social media content (graphics, short form video, captions, stories, reels, blog posts etc.) to promote positive money management, budgeting skills, and financial wellbeing.
• Become familiar with the range of support mechanisms available to students from the university.
• Create content that raises awareness of support available through the Financial Guidance Team, including university funds, bursaries, cost of living support, and financial guidance services.
• Assist with promoting Student Finance, budgeting and financial wellbeing events and campaigns through in person support, digital content and live posting.
• Undertake appropriate training and development to strengthen content creation skills and ensure messaging remains accurate and up to date.
Skills and experience
Currently studying at the University of Northampton
Awareness of financial issues affecting students in Higher Education
Good knowledge of University of Northampton support systems
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in digital formats
Experience creating engaging social media content (e.g., Instagram, Reels, Stories, short form video, graphics, blog posts) to promote key messages
Understanding of digital trends, friendly online communication styles, and how to tailor content to student audiences
Familiarity with content-creation tools such as Canva
Demonstrable accurate record keeping
Interest in money and budgeting
Excellent organisational skills and a flexible approach
Able to work as part of a team and on one’s own initiative
