Role

Our prestigious client are seeking a motivated and ambitious individual to join their team as a Trainee Independent Financial Adviser & Paraplanner (IFA). This is a unique opportunity to learn directly from an experienced, qualified IFA, gaining hands-on experience and comprehensive support inbuildingin building a successful career in financial advice.

Our client are an Appointed Representative of Sense Network Ltd, providing independent, whole-of-market advice. They specialise in later-life financial planning — retirement income, Inheritance Tax mitigation, trusts and succession planning — for families with estates typically between £1m and £10m. The successful candidate will begin in a paraplanning and technical support role, building the analytical foundation to progress, with full support, towards authorised adviser status.

Working days are Monday - Friday working 40 hours a week. Flexible working hours to work around the client. Salary for the position is £26,500.

Office-based position (Hilton, Derbyshire), but travel off site with the adviser as required. Training to be provided via video, which can be done from home and off-site at the training venue (currently Knutsford)

Duties and responsibilities

  • Shadow a qualified IFA during client meetings to observe and learn best practices.
  • Assist in preparing financial recommendations and reports tailored to client needs.
  • Prepare suitability reports and supporting research under the supervision of the adviser.
  • Conduct provider, product and fund research across pensions, investments and trust-based solutions.
  • Assist with cashflow modelling and the analysis of retirement income, Inheritance Tax and estate planning options.
  • Liaise with providers and platforms to obtain valuations, illustrations and policy information.
  • Support the adviser in completing applications, paperwork, and compliance documentation.
  • Help maintain accurate client records on our CRM (Intelligent Office) and follow up on administrative tasks.
  • Participate in training sessions to develop technical knowledge and soft skills.
  • Work towards achieving industry - recognised qualifications (e.g., DipFA, Level 4 Diploma).
  • Develop relationships with the next generation of our existing client families, supporting succession and intergenerational planning.
  • Stay up to date with financial products, legislation, and market trends.

Skills and experience

  • Strong interest in financial planning and wealth management.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • High level of integrity and professionalism.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Willingness to learn and take initiative.
  • Ideally educated to degree level or with relevant experience (not essential).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and comfortable with digital tools.
  • A genuine interest in later-life planning, Inheritance Tax and succession is highly desirable.
  • A patient, empathetic manner with older and potentially vulnerable clients, consistent with Consumer Duty.
