Description

Role

South Staffordshire College is seeking a motivated and inspiring Electrical Installations Lecturer to deliver high-quality teaching, learning and assessment across a range of electrical programmes.

You will support students throughout their learning journey - driving achievement, retention and progression - while delivering engaging, industry-relevant lessons that prepare learners for successful careers.

Duties and responsibilities

Teaching & Learning

  • Deliver outstanding teaching, learning and assessment
  • Plan and deliver lessons across a range of Electrical Installation courses
  • Prepare, assess and provide timely feedback on student work
  • Develop schemes of work, lesson plans and assessment strategies
  • Embed maths, English and employability skills into delivery
  • Maintain up-to-date subject and awarding body knowledge

Student Support & Pastoral Care

  • Support students’ academic, personal and professional development
  • Monitor attendance, behaviour and progress, taking appropriate action
  • Provide advice on career pathways and progression opportunities
  • Act as a Personal Tutor, supporting wellbeing and safeguarding

Quality & Continuous Improvement

  • Take part in lesson observations and quality improvement processes
  • Contribute to self-assessment and quality improvement planning
  • Monitor student performance data to improve outcomes
  • Meet awarding body requirements including assessment and IQA processes

Teamwork & Collaboration

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to achieve departmental targets
  • Share best practice and contribute to a positive team environment
  • Participate in recruitment events, open days and marketing activities
  • Build relationships with employers, stakeholders and awarding bodies

Operational Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate student records using college systems
  • Contribute to recruitment, retention and achievement targets
  • Plan enrichment activities and work experience opportunities
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety, Safeguarding and Equality & Diversity policies
  • Respond proactively to challenges in the classroom or workshop environment

Skills and experience

Essential

  • Teaching qualification (PGCE/Cert Ed/DTLLS) or willingness to work towards
  • Level 3 qualification in Electrical Installation (or higher)
  • GCSE Maths and English (Grade 4/C or above) or equivalent
  • Relevant industry experience and up-to-date subject knowledge
  • Experience delivering teaching, learning and assessment
  • Strong communication, organisation and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to motivate and engage a diverse range of learners
  • Understanding of safeguarding, equality and diversity

Desirable

  • Higher-level qualification in Electrical Installation
  • Assessor and/or Internal Verifier qualification
  • Experience working in Further Education
  • Experience with awarding bodies or programme development
