Role
South Staffordshire College is seeking an engaging and knowledgeable Agricultural Engineering Lecturer to deliver high-quality teaching, learning and assessment across a range of programmes at our Rodbaston Campus. You will play a key role in supporting student achievement, progression and industry readiness within a practical and dynamic learning environment.
Duties and responsibilities
Teaching & Learning
- Deliver outstanding teaching, learning and assessment
- Plan and deliver lessons across a range of courses in Agricultural Engineering
- Prepare, assess and provide timely feedback on student work
- Develop schemes of work, lesson plans and assessment strategies
- Embed maths, English, ICT and employability skills into delivery
- Support student progress, retention and achievement
Student Support & Pastoral Care
- Act as a Personal Tutor, supporting students’ academic and pastoral needs
- Monitor attendance, behaviour and performance, taking appropriate action
- Provide guidance on career progression and employment opportunities
- Ensure safeguarding, wellbeing and safety of all students
Quality & Continuous Improvement
- Participate in quality improvement processes, including observations and self-assessment
- Contribute to improving teaching, learning and assessment practices
- Monitor and analyse course data to enhance outcomes
- Meet awarding body requirements including assessment, IQA and EQA processes
Teamwork & Collaboration
- Work effectively with colleagues to meet departmental and organisational targets
- Share best practice and support team development
- Participate in meetings, recruitment events and marketing activities
- Build relationships with employers, stakeholders and awarding bodies
Operational Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate student records using internal systems
- Ensure compliance with Health & Safety, Safeguarding, Equality & Diversity policies
- Plan and organise resources, trips, work experience and external visits
- Respond proactively to challenges (e.g. lesson delivery issues, equipment or IT problems)
Skills and experience
Essential
- Teaching qualification (PGCE/Cert Ed/DTLLS) or willingness to work towards
- Level 3 qualification (or higher) in Agricultural Engineering or related subject
- GCSE Maths and English (Grade 4/C or above) or equivalent
- Relevant industry knowledge and up-to-date subject expertise
- Experience delivering teaching, learning and assessment
- Strong organisational, communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to motivate and engage learners from diverse backgrounds
- Understanding of safeguarding, equality and diversity
Desirable
- Higher-level qualification in the subject area
- Assessor and/or Internal Verifier qualification
- Experience in Further Education
- Experience working with awarding bodies or developing programmes
