Unitemps are recruiting for a Research Administrator. This role has a July 1st start date and a projected end date of December 1st 2026. This is a part-time role at 7.3 hours per week (projected). Payment is set at £21.98 per hour + £4.11 holiday pay. This role is UCL hybrid working; part from campus and part from home.

 
The job holder will provide administrative support to the ESRC Education Research Programme (ERP). The ERP consists of a team of researchers and administrative staff based in UCL and working under the Directorship of Professor Gemma Moss and a cohort of nine research projects based at other universities across the UK. The UCL research team is based in the Department of Learning and Leadership, UCL Institute of Education. The nine research projects based in universities elsewhere in the UK have been researching two themes directly relevant to education policy and practice: teacher recruitment, retention and development; and the uses of technology in education. Gemma Moss coordinates the programme and leads the UCL-based research into how education researchers, policymakers and practitioners interact in the four nations of the UK. The Programme is now in its final year.

Duties and responsibilities

The main purpose of the job is to provide administrative support to the ESRC Education Research Programme (ERP). The ERP consists of a team of researchers and administrative staff based in UCL and working under the Directorship of Professor Gemma Moss and a cohort of nine research projects based at different universities across the UK.

We are looking for a motivated individual with relevant experience in research administration and project management who would be able to adapt to a busy working environment and manage a diverse range of tasks in a timely manner. Excellent communication, organisation and time-management skills are a necessity.

The role includes providing high quality administrative support to the research team at UCL; maintaining contact with the Principal Investigators and research teams based at other universities in the UK; and helping to ensure that the range of research activities and outputs that the Programme has planned are efficiently and effectively delivered. A strong administrative and communications background, and an outstanding team work ethic are required. Must have an interest in and knowledge of the educational research landscape in the UK and the target audiences for educational research: policymakers, the teaching profession, and research funders.

Duties:

1. Provide comprehensive and timely administrative support for the research team based at UCL.

2. Provide administrative support for project meetings, seminars and other externally focusing events, including organising travel, catering, and room arrangements where necessary.

3. Raise purchase orders in line with UCL Financial Regulations using MyFinance for Purchase Orders and project expenses in consultation with the Director.

4. Regularly review project budgets to ensure expenditure is as anticipated and meets the funder’s terms and conditions, in liaison with the relevant Research Operations Administrator.

5. Assist the research team with the preparation of a range of documents for publication online including reports and briefing notes.

6. Keep the Programme’s website updated ensuring that research activities, events and other outputs are showcased and the content is appropriately designed to reach its intended audiences.

7. Publicise the Programme’s activities using the appropriate social media channels and the Programme’s newsletter.

8. Maintain and develop the databases that document the Programmes activities and will be used to provide evidence to the funder of impact, reach and influence over the research cycle.

9. Liaise with the externally-based Project PIs to co-ordinate activities and collate responses to requests for information from the funder, ESRC.

10. Help prepare the Programme’s legacy strategy, enabling a range of other stakeholders to continue to benefit from the Programme’s outputs after funding has ceased.

Skills and experience

Essential Criteria
  • Previous experience in a similar administrative and/or communications role
  • Outstanding organisational skills, including experience of organising online and/or in-person events
  • Excellent communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills
  • A methodical and accurate approach to work, with strong attention to detail and capacity to juggle tasks
  • Experience of maintaining project budgets using UCL systems or similar
  • Proven ability to update webpages, prepare online content and use social media channels to attract and engage audiences
  • Excellent writing, designing, editing and proof reading skills for print publications, websites and social media
  • Understanding of research project timelines and processes

Desirable Criteria

  • Interest in taking a problem solving approach to research engagement with the capacity to evaluate a range of strategies
