Role

The University of Leicester is seeking a qualified, friendly and proactive Active Life Advisor to join the Sport & Active Life team based at either the Danielle Brown Sports Centre or the Roger Bettles Sports Centre, with potential for cross-site working. This is a temporary opportunity until 31 December 2026, with the possibility of extension, offering the chance to contribute to a vibrant and inclusive university environment focused on wellbeing and physical activity.

Working as part of a small and supportive team, you will play a key role in delivering an excellent customer experience within the University’s sports facilities. You will provide guidance, encouragement and professional support to gym users, helping them to maximise their fitness outcomes and engage confidently with the services available.

Duties and responsibilities

In this role you will deliver high-quality inductions for individuals and groups, design and support personalised fitness programmes, and provide informed advice to a diverse range of customers. You will welcome members to the gym, manage access, respond to enquiries and undertake associated administrative tasks, including reporting on gym usage and engagement.

You will also be responsible for ensuring the safe, clean and effective operation of the gym environment. This includes monitoring and maintaining equipment, delivering daily cleaning duties, and supporting the implementation of health and safety procedures such as capacity management and pool responder responsibilities. Maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for all users will be central to your work.

Skills and experience

You must hold a recognised certified fitness qualification equivalent to REPS Level 2, as this is an essential requirement for the role.

Experience of working within a customer-facing environment is also required, alongside the ability to communicate effectively and provide excellent service to a wide range of users.

You will be IT literate with experience using Microsoft Office programmes and demonstrate a proactive and team-focused approach to your work. A strong understanding of health and safety practices, attention to detail and the ability to work flexibly across a seven-day rota are important. Successful candidates will be required to pass an enhanced DBS check.

Location
Danielle Brown Sports Centre or Roger Bettles Sports Centre, University of Leicester (Potential for cross-site working, but a base site will be allocated to you if successful)
