Role

The Student Careers Assistant will support the University Careers Service by engaging with students to promote career-related opportunities, jobs, placements, internships, volunteering and wider employability initiatives and services. The role involves providing peer-to-peer support, assisting with student applications, supporting events, and contributing to social media campaigns.
There will be x roles available each focussing on:
· Events support
· Social Media and Promotion
· Providing triage support during drop ins
Duties and responsibilities
1. Provide 1:1 peer-to-peer careers advice, helping students with CVs, cover letters, job applications, and interview techniques.
2. Assist with student application support, reviewing documents, providing constructive feedback, and directing students to relevant careers resources.
3. Act as an advocate for the Careers Service by campaigning to increase student awareness and engagement through promotional activities, presentations, and outreach efforts.
4. Support administrative tasks related to placements, Unitemps, internship opportunities, and data tracking of student engagement.
5. Help organise and deliver careers events, including employer panels, networking sessions, skills workshops, and careers fairs.
6. Assist with event logistics, including venue setup, liaising with employers, and managing student registrations.
7. Attend Open days/evenings to promote the service, especially in relation to Unitemps providing part time roles and the importance of securing placements.
8. Contribute to the social media strategy, creating engaging and informative content, managing campaigns, and analysing engagement metrics.
9. Develop and deliver workshops or small group sessions on employability topics in collaboration with the Careers Service team.
10. Gather and share student feedback, helping to improve careers services and tailor support to student needs.
11. Stay informed about industry trends and employability skills to provide up-to-date advice and insights to fellow students.
Skills and experience
Essential Criteria:
- Current student at Middlesex University with an interest in career development.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to engage and support fellow students in a professional and approachable manner.
- Confidence in using social media platforms (e.g., LinkedIn, Instagram, X) for professional engagement.
- Good organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks.
Desirable Criteria:
- Experience in peer mentoring, student representation, or similar roles.
- Familiarity with careers services, recruitment processes, or employability programmes.
- Basic knowledge of graphic design or video editing tools for content creation.
