Role

If you are enthusiastic about sustainability, waste prevention, and reuse, this is a great opportunity to make a real impact. The Energy & Sustainability Team is seeking passionate and motivated individuals to support the Donation Drive Project. Last year, we collected, sorted, and redistributed 9.5 tonnes of items, can you help to make the project bigger and better this year?

You will be comfortable working outdoors in all weathers and confident instructing our volunteers, ensuring that they clearly understand the signposting and processes. You will also need to be able to cope with the physical demands of this role as you will be on your feet all day, sorting and moving items such as kitchenware and food

The role is physically demanding and requires lifting and moving heavy boxes. A detailed risk assessment will be provided, and the role holder will attend an in-person briefing session. Appropriate equipment (e.g. trollies) will be provided to facilitate the moving of very heavy items

Duties and responsibilities

  • Signpost students to the Donation Bunkers
  • Move donations to the designated pick-up zones
  • Assist volunteers with the sorting process, providing clear instructions and support 
  • Weighing and recording donated items
  • Taking items to be washed
  • Preparing items for the Kitchen Kit Market
  • Collaborate with the Energy & Sustainability Team to ensure the smooth running of the donation collection process

Skills and experience

  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills to work effectively with volunteers and staff
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including standing for long periods and lifting items
  • Interest in sustainability, circular economy, and waste reduction
  • Good communication skills for interacting with volunteers and promoting the initiative
  • An ability to remain upbeat and energetic to keep volunteers motivated

Uniform: Comfortable clothing suitable for the weather conditions on the day. A hi-vis vest will be provided. A light waterproof jacket and comfortable shoes are advised
