Role
Unitemps is seeking an experienced, dependable, and customer-focused Delivery Driver to join The Old Fire Station Bakery and Lark Hill Brewery team. This role is responsible for the preparation, loading, transportation, and delivery of bakery and brewery products to wholesale customers across Greater Manchester. Working closely with the Head Baker and Head Brewer, the successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring products are delivered accurately, safely, and on time while maintaining exceptional standards of customer service. The position requires a professional and proactive individual who can work independently, manage delivery schedules effectively, and represent the Bakery, Brewery, and University of Salford positively when interacting with customers. The role also involves adhering to food safety standards, health and safety requirements, road traffic regulations, and organisational procedures, ensuring all deliveries are completed efficiently and to the highest standard.
Duties and responsibilities
- Delivering food and drink items produced by The Old Fire Station Bakery and Lark Hill Brewery to wholesale customers in Greater Manchester
- Under the guidance of both the Head Baker and Head Brewer, you will be preparing orders for collection and delivering Bakery and Brewery products to wholesale customers across Greater Manchester
- Must have high standards of personal hygiene and be presentable, reliable, and professional at all times as you will be representing the Bakery and Brewery, and by extension the University of Salford, to wholesale customers
- The delivery of Bakery items also requires compliance with strict hygiene and food safety regulations
- Must be able to handle full beer kegs (~40kg) and ensure the safe and efficient handling and transport of both the kegs and trays of bakery items
- Preparing items for collection/delivery, loading, unloading, and delivery of Bakery and Brewery items while maintaining a strong customers focus and adhering to safety regulations, compliance with all road traffic laws, and organisational procedures.
- Work with the Head Brewer and undertake dray-related activities including assisting in the kegging of beer within the brewery, and the transport and storage of full kegs into and out of cold storage.
- Handling bakery food trays, and other goods, ensuring they are properly loaded and secured in the vehicle, and unloading them at the delivery destination.
- Preparing, checking and confirming goods and collection/delivery schedules with the Head Brewer and Head Baker
- Effective route planning to ensure time efficient delivery
- Complying with all road traffic laws and parking regulations
- Undertake delivery service across Greater Manchester including city centre locations
- Checking, confirming and recording deliveries, checking for accuracy and product quality
- Checking the vehicle is road-worthy and complete daily checklist and immediately reporting any issues or concerns.
- Ensuring the vehicle has sufficient charge to easily complete the daily delivery route
Skills and experience
- Food Safety Level 1 qualification is required.
- Excellent customer service skills
- Time management, and organisational abilities
- A high-level of self-motivation and a commitment to working as part of a small professional team and independently with equal measures
- Must currently hold and have held a full clean UK driving licence for over 5 years, without any penalty points, for private vehicles and vans (as a requirement of the University insurance policy)
- Background & experience
- Substantial driving experience (preferably in a commercial transport role) with an exceptionally good driving record
- Evidence of working in a customer-facing role Required knowledge
- Knowledge of current road traffic laws, regulations and rules including the Highway Code
- Skills & competencies
- To be able to organise own workload in a prioritised manner
- Plan delivery routes to meet delivery times
- Ability to work unsupervised remaining motivated and using own initiative Other considerations
- Must be able to drive an electric vehicle
- Must be able to undertake regular heavy manual handling tasks associated to the role
- Must have medical and physical attributes to do the job taking in to account reasonable adjustments e.g. eyesight
