Description
Role
Research Accounting Officer required to provide financial management and support for research grants, including funder liaison, financial reporting, compliance monitoring, and advice to academics and Schools.
Duties and responsibilities
-
Providing updates and advice to academics and Schools regarding the management of research grants.
-
Responding to queries regarding research grants from academics and Schools.
-
Liaising with research funders regarding the management of grants funded by them, including coordinating with funders regarding requests from Principal Investigators.

Coordinating with research collaborators for multi-party research grants.
-
Authorising requests for staff appointments on research grants, coordinating with HR as necessary.

Undertaking regular reconciliations of research grants.

Ensuring regular invoicing / receipt of expected income.

Setting up new research projects, coordinating with the Research Support Services team.

Submitting financial reports to funders in line with funder terms.
-
Ensuring expenditure is within Financial Regulations and external contractual requirements.

Ensuing timely collaborator payments and invoicing/reporting for multi-party grants led by City St George’s.

Initiating and leading audits of grants as required by research funders’ terms.

Management of exchange rates on international grants.

To problem solve to enable effective financial management, seeking and advising on pragmatic solutions, analysing and providing mitigations for risks (e.g. overspends) and advising management on solutions.

To communicate with and support professional services and academic colleagues within the University, and externally with research funders and project partners, to ensure the effective financial management of research grants, including senior academics and professional services staff.

To work collaboratively with colleagues in Research & Innovation Services, with strong teamwork to ensure that an excellent service is provided to academics and Schools.

To plan and organise day to day work for self, taking into account the requirements of Research & Innovation Services, Schools and financial regulations and processes.
Skills and experience
The candidate must (have experience on or be):

Be proficient in the use of the Agresso Financial system.

Understand research grant financial management, including overhead allocation, financial processes and research funding terms and conditions across a range of research funders.

Provide support and advice to academics regarding the financial management of research grants across a range of research funders.

Undertake research grant financial management activities across a range of research funders.
-
Providing excellent customer service.

Have strong problem solving, with strong numeracy, analytical skills and attention to detail, along with the ability to advise management on decisions.

Be a self-starter.

Have a collaborative approach and strong team playing attributes.
