Role
Are you a student looking to kickstart your career in tech? Romax is offering an exciting, hands-on internship designed specifically for Computer Science and Software Development students.

This isn't a role where you'll be making coffee. You will be fully immersed in a dynamic commercial environment, working closely with experienced mentors to make meaningful contributions to our innovation pipeline. Whether you join us full-time for four weeks or part-time for eight, you will gain practical, real-world experience that bridges the gap between academic theory and industry practice.

Romax is a UK-based provider of innovative direct marketing, customer communication, and digital transformation solutions. Headquartered in Orpington, Kent, we help businesses deliver personalised communications through a blend of data-driven strategy, marketing automation, and print digital integration.

We are committed to sustainability, technological advancement, and exceptional service. We partner with organisations across the retail, education, finance, and membership sectors to deliver targeted, effective, and measurable campaigns. Learn more about us at www.romax.co.uk.

Duties and responsibilities
During your time with us, you will be an integral part of our digital and data teams. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Project Ownership: Contributing to one or two mini software development projects, taking them from initial concept through to a working prototype.
  • Process Improvement: Assisting in the enhancement of our internal workflow automation and data management tools.
  • Full Lifecycle Development: Participating in scoping, coding, testing, and documenting small-scale applications.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Working with our teams to explore customer journey optimisation and supporting the integration of digital solutions with our existing print and communication services.
  • Showcasing Your Work: Presenting your progress and outcomes at team meetings and to key stakeholders.

What You Will Learn

We are dedicated to ensuring you leave this internship with valuable, highly sought-after skills:
  • Technical Proficiency: Gain real-world experience in full-stack or back-end development, developing proficiency in commercial tools, languages, and methodologies such as Python, JavaScript, SQL, Git, and APIs.
  • Professional Skills: Strengthen your problem-solving abilities, team collaboration, and understanding of Agile workflows.
  • Portfolio Building: Complete a demonstrable portfolio piece or case study that you can use for future employment opportunities or academic submissions.

Skills and experience
We are looking for passionate, curious, and motivated individuals. You should apply if you meet the following criteria:

  • You are currently studying a Computer Science, Software Engineering, or similar technical degree.
  • You have a strong interest in software development, backed by some experience in coding projects (whether academic, personal, or open-source).
  • You possess excellent communication skills and a proactive, self motivated attitude.
  • You are willing and able to work onsite in Orpington for the majority of the internship period.

At Romax, we value diversity and inclusion. Even if you feel you don't meet every single requirement, we still strongly encourage you to apply. We are looking for potential and passion as much as current skill level.
