Description
Role
The Marketing & Stakeholder Engagement (MSE) department at the University of Gloucestershire is responsible for marketing, brand, digital, and stakeholder communications across the university. As part of our pre-arrival engagement activity, the department is launching MyGlos Lounge — an invite-only online community forum for students who have accepted an offer to study at Glos.
The forum provides a space for prospective students to connect with each other and with the university before they arrive on campus in September.
We are looking to recruit a Community Host via Unitemps to help us run and oversee the community during its launch phase.
This is a remote, flexible role requiring approximately one hour per day over a three-month period. The ideal candidate will be someone who is enthusiastic about the University of Gloucestershire and can act as a credible, welcoming presence in the community — someone who understands what prospective students are thinking and feeling as they prepare to start university life.
Applicants must be a current University of Gloucestershire student. We would particularly welcome applications from students who have themselves recently gone through the offer-holder and pre-arrival experience, as lived experience of this transition is central to the role.
Duties and responsibilities
- Monitor the MyGlos Lounge forum on a daily basis to ensure activity remains in line with community guidelines and house rules
- Review and action any flagged or reported content, removing posts that are inappropriate, offensive, or in breach of the platform's rules
- Act as an active and visible participant in the community — responding to questions, welcoming new members, and helping to keep conversations going
- Seed new discussion topics where the forum needs a prompt, drawing on your own experience as a Glos student to generate relevant and engaging conversations
- Escalate any safeguarding concerns or serious conduct issues to the line manager in the Marketing & Stakeholder Engagement team promptly
- Keep a brief daily log of activity and flag any patterns or issues to the line manager on a weekly basis
- Contribute occasional feedback on how the forum is being received and suggest improvements to the community experience
Skills and experience
- Current student at the University of Gloucestershire
- Confident and active communicator in online environments, with experience of participating in social media, online communities, or forums
- Approachable and welcoming manner, with the ability to make new people feel at ease
- Reliable and self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and manage their own time to fulfil a daily commitment
- Good judgement, with the ability to identify and escalate inappropriate content or conduct calmly and promptly
- Genuine enthusiasm for the University of Gloucestershire and pride in being part of the Glos community

Additional information
This is a genuinely exciting opportunity to play a central role in the launch of a brand new initiative at the University of Gloucestershire. MyGlos Lounge will be one of the first things that new Glos students experience, and the person in this role will have a real opportunity to shape the culture and tone of the community from day one.
The role is remote and flexible, and is designed to fit around your studies — the expectation is approximately one hour per day, which can be completed at a time that suits you. You will be supported by the Marketing & Stakeholder Engagement team and will have a named point of contact for any questions or concerns.
We are particularly keen to hear from students who remember what it felt like to be waiting to start at Glos — the excitement, the nerves, the questions — and who would like to help the next generation of students feel welcome before they even arrive on campus.
