Role
This job opportunity is open to undergraduate and postgraduate students enrolled at the University of Surrey. Applicants must be prepared to work on campus for all contracted hours.
We are seeking a Data & Evaluation Ambassador, to support with the input of day-to-day evaluation from events and to analyse the feedback from participants to help us measure the impact of our work.
The Widening Participation and Student Success (WPS) team works to support the development of aspirations and attainment of young people from a range of backgrounds, with a particular focus on working with groups who are under-represented in higher education. The Outreach Team deliver activities to young people across two main programmes: Surrey STARS and Surrey Scholars.
All our programmes are evaluated against knowledge, attitudinal and behavioural outcomes to measure their impact. We work with 12 partner secondary schools through our Surrey STARS programme and work with young people across the region through our extra-curricular Surrey Scholars programme.
As a Data & Evaluation Ambassador, you will work in partnership with the WPS team providing vital data analysis of activities and written reports that will be shared with internal and external stakeholders.
Hours: Around 6–12 hours per week* from Monday 6 July 2026 until Friday 25 September 2026.

£12.71 per hour.
£1.53 per hour holiday pay.
Duties and responsibilities
We are looking for a student who has a strong attention to detail and accuracy when working with data and can produce clear summary reports to share with internal teams and partner schools.
Duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Data input
- Accurately input participant and event data into spreadsheets, university databases and HEAT (Higher Education Access Tracker)
- Organise and clean data (e.g. checking for duplicates, missing information or obvious errors)
- Follow agreed procedures for handling and storing data securely in line with data protection requirements (GDPR)
- Data analysis
- Use tools such as Microsoft Excel to summarise data (e.g. calculating totals, percentages and pre/post event changes in knowledge or attitudes)
- Assist with basic qualitative analysis (e.g. identifying common themes in comments)
- Identify trends and key findings
- Compare data across events, partner schools and programmes
- Reporting
- Using templates and guidance from the WPS Team, produce concise written summaries and visualisations (tables, graphs, charts) for internal colleagues and partner schools
- Contribute to short evaluation reports or case studies highlighting the impact of outreach activities
- Present findings in a clear, accessible way for non-specialist audiences
- Administration
- Support general administrative tasks related to data and evaluation as required (e.g. creating surveys and evaluation forms)
Skills and experience
Essential criteria
- Enrolled as a University of Surrey UG/PG student
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy when working with data
- Confident using Microsoft Excel for basic data handling (sorting, filtering, simple formulas)
- Good written communication skills, with the ability to summarise and report information clearly
- Ability to handle confidential information responsibly and in line with data protection requirements
- Organised and reliable, able to manage time and meet agreed deadlines
Desirable criteria
- Experience of evaluating activities/events to improve future initiatives (in either an academic, work or voluntary setting)
- Ability to work independently with some supervision
- Lived experience and/or understanding of the experiences of students from underrepresented groups at Surrey
- Understanding of widening participation, outreach or educational settings
