This internship is an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience within the Estates Commercial team at Middlesex University, contributing to projects and initiatives that support the commercial growth and utilisation of the University campus.
 
You will work across areas such as commercial venue hire, events, market research, business development, and campus engagement to help identify and develop opportunities that generate income while also enhancing the student and community experience.
 
The role will involve researching commercial opportunities, supporting the development of business cases, identifying potential partnerships and events, and assisting with the operational and strategic activities of the Estates Commercial team.
 
This role is ideal for someone interested in commercial operations, business development, events, facilities management, or higher education administration. You will develop practical skills in research, communication, stakeholder engagement, project coordination, and commercial thinking, while gaining insight into how universities manage and develop commercial services.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Conduct market research to identify commercial opportunities, industry trends, and competitor activity relevant to university facility hire and events.
  • Support the development of business cases and proposals for new commercial initiatives and partnerships.
  • Assist in identifying opportunities for conferences, corporate events, filming, community activities, and external venue hire on campus.
  • Explore and suggest opportunities for events and partnerships that can positively contribute to student experience and engagement.
  • Support the Estates Commercial team with administrative and operational tasks related to events, bookings, and commercial activities.
  • Assist in preparing presentations, reports, and commercial documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Help review campus space utilisation and identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and commercial performance.
  • Work collaboratively with different university departments and external stakeholders to support commercial projects and initiatives.
  • Assist in gathering and reviewing feedback from clients, visitors, or event attendees to identify areas for improvement.
  • Participate in team meetings, project discussions, training sessions, and reflective learning activities.

Skills and experience
Essential

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good organisational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Interest in business development, events, commercial operations, or facilities management.
  • Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Confidence using Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Problem-solving mindset with willingness to learn and contribute ideas.
Desirable
  • Interest or experience in events, hospitality, business, marketing, or commercial services.
  • Experience in customer service, administration, or project support.
  • Familiarity with market research, data analysis, or business planning.
  • Understanding of university operations or the higher education environment.
  • Experience creating presentations, reports, or promotional content.

Hendon Campus (hybrid working may be considered depending on operational requirements)
