Role

The Event Assistant will support one of our four Colleges – the College of Science and Engineering and work closely with college aligned staff to support the running of a ‘PGT Project Showcase’ event run in partnership with Space Park Leicester.

This role will support the university to run a flagship event to provide a development opportunity for PGT students to showcase their project work and develop their professional networking skills. We also aim foster an effective working relationship with Space Park Leicester in order to support and promote career and employability development opportunities.

Working hours: 20 hours over 4 weeks – exact hours to be discussed on appointment to the role. The successful candidate will be required to work at Space Park Leicester on the day of the event (Tuesday 7th July).

Duties and responsibilities

Event planning, organisation and promotion

  • Support with the creation of compelling promotional materials, including email, digital flyer and social media content.
  • Disseminate information to relevant cohorts across PGT CSE and the wider university if needed.
  • Communicate with students, academics and college marketing staff to ensure effective promotion of the event. 
  • Liaising with communications and print service departments re event requirements. 
  • Support with event logistics, including transportation and catering. 

Administrative Support

  • Manage administration around event attendees, co-ordinating specific requirements and responding to queries as well as event logistics. 
  • Keeping up to date and accurate records of attendees and any specific requirements.
  • Communicating timely and relevant updates to attendees and academic staff. 
  • Other relevant administrative tasks e.g. liaising with transport company. 

Event support and follow up

  • Support with set up and clear down of event and organisation of student attendees
  • Gather attendee feedback, analyse event data (attendance rates, engagement), and produce post-event performance reports.

Skills and experience

Essential

  • Experience of working in some form of customer or student facing environment* 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills*
  • Competent use of Microsoft Office packages*
  • Experience of working as part of team* 
  • Experience of working under own initiative* 
  • Experience of planning and organising work activities*
  • Current PGT student at the University of Leicester studying within the College of Science and Engineering

Desirable

  • Experience of supporting the organisation and delivery of events 
  • Experience of working in a career guidance/careers, marketing or educational setting.
  • Experience of influencing and negotiating. 
  • Competent use of internet and social media
