Role

Unitemps are recruiting for a Administrative Assistant. This role is for an June 15th start date and has a projected end date of August 14th 2026. Payment is set at £19.14 per hour + £3.58 holiday pay. This role will be campus based working at the professional services team of the Department of Statistical Science at UCL.
 
This Administrative Assistant role will be providing general support and information to the Operations / IT colleagues. It is a junior IT support role working under the direct supervision of the departmental Systems Administrator. The post holder will provide day-to-day desktop support to approximately 60 staff and 50 PhD students, assist with a programme of PC upgrades and data migrations, maintain hardware and software inventory, and produce end-user documentation. The role is well suited to a current undergraduate or recent graduate in a computing or IT-related field seeking practical experience in a busy academic environment.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Ordering goods and services such as stationery, catering, furniture
  • Supporting the organisation of events
  • Assist with the installation, configuration, and support of desktop PCs, laptops, printers, scanners, and software applications under the guidance of the Systems Administrator
  • Help resolve day-to-day software and hardware problems reported by staff and students, escalating to the Systems Administrator where appropriate
  • Assist with a planned programme of PC hardware upgrades, including physical setup and configuration
  • Configure devices using the standard departmental build and imaging process
  • Update and maintain an accurate inventory of all hardware and software assets
  • Write and maintain clear, concise how-to guides for end users covering common tasks
  • Provide informal guidance and assistance to staff and students on the use of IT facilities

Skills and experience

  • Currently studying for or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field — or equivalent practical experience
  • Demonstrable knowledge and hands-on experience of supporting Windows-based systems
  • Practical experience of OS installation, configuration, and basic maintenance
  • Ability to create or modify simple scripts (e.g. PowerShell, batch files, shell scripts) to automate routine tasks on both Windows and Linux
  • Ability to manage a varied task list, update ticket status without prompting, and prioritise effectively
