Description
Role
Research Assistant / Research Fellow - to support a project on the geopolitics of fossil-fuel phase down
Research assistance is related to a UKRI-funded research project, UKERC 2024-2029. The Warwick element of this grant is being managed by Professor Caroline Kuzemko in PAIS. I have a research project in theme 1 on energy geopolitics that examines the geopolitics of the fossil fuel phase-down. As part of that project, I am engaged with colleagues at UCL who are modelling the impact of the energy transition on fossil fuel producers. The aim of this project is to combine this research with WBS's work on ‘fragile fossil fuel producers’, those most exposed to transition risk. The post aims to provide additional capability to conduct a literature survey on different dimensions of fragility that will combine work on fossil fuel export dependence, physical climate impacts and governance and state capacity. The outputs of this research are then used to produce a composite index of the resilience of fossil fuel producers. Support is needed to do this work in a timely fashion, over the summer.
Duties and responsibilities
- The post holder will conduct a literature review on three areas of research: fossil-fuel export dependence, exposure to physical climate risk and governance and state capacity.
- The post holder will conduct a critical review various quantitative indicators of the three areas to create a composite index of the resilience of fossil fuel producers.
- The post-holder will be responsible for writing up the findings of the research as a literature review suitable for publication.
- The post-holder will cooperate with researchers at UCL involved in modelling exposure to transition risk.
Skills and experience
- The postholder should have research experience and qualifications in a relevant social science at Masters’ level or above.
- The postholder should have experience of conducting bibliographic research and producing literature reviews.
- The post holder should have the qualitative skills expected of a postgraduate social science researcher (modelling is not a requirement).
- The post holder should be able to write up the research findings to a standard that is acceptable for publication.
- The post holder should be able to work remotely with limited supervision, to set targets and an agreed delivery timetable.
