Role

This is a department-based role focusing on the area of research finance. Activities will include forecasting, reconciliations, budget control and planning across a portfolio of projects.

Duties and responsibilities

To support the effective management of a portfolio of externally and internally funded research projects by:

  • Monitoring and controlling project budgets, ensuring expenditure remains within approved limits and complies with funding eligibility requirements.
  • Undertaking financial planning and forecasting to support project delivery.
  • Liaising with Principal Investigators (PIs) to review financial performance and resolve any issues.
  • Preparing financial reports, including analysis of variances, and escalating any concerns to the Management Accountant (Research) where corrective action may be required.

Skills and experience

Applicants should demonstrate the ability to work independently and manage a varied and challenging workload. Previous experience of financial regulations is desirable, along with a strong ability to interpret funder rules, terms, and conditions.

The successful candidate will also be able to effectively engage with and advise stakeholders, providing clear guidance on available options while delivering a high standard of customer service.

Given the complexity of work within SLS, the post holder must be able to confidently navigate and respond to a demanding and dynamic environment.

An AAT qualification or equivalent is essential.
