Are you a current University of Nottingham undergraduate student? Are you interested in postgraduate training and a career in scientific research but aren't sure if it's right for you or if you have enough experience?
This is an opportunity for an undergraduate student from a background that is currently underrepresented in postgraduate training (see eligibility). The successful candidate will complete an eight-week summer internship in a research lab that is developing new neuromodulation therapies for mental health conditions. The internship will be paid at an hourly rate equivalent to the Real Living Wage.
This eight-week placement is intended to be full time (36.25 hours per week) but may be offered at 60% full time equivalent if needed due to a student's other responsibilities. If conducted full time, the eight weeks will include one week's annual leave (pro rata for less than full time).

Pay Rate: £13.72 per hour
Holiday Pay Rate: £1.66 per hour

Duties and responsibilities
- Supporting recruitment of participants (healthy volunteers)
- Assisting with neuromodulation experiments (helping to setup experiments, contributing to the smooth running of sessions)
- Assisting with data analysis
- Supporting engagement and inclusion activities (joining community events with other members of the research team)
Skills and experience
To be eligible, you must have UK fee status at the time of application. You must be a registered University of Nottingham undergraduate student. You must have completed your first year of an undergraduate science or healthcare degree by the start of the internship but must not have completed your final year. You must also meet at least one of:
- Identity as Black, Asian or from another UK minority ethnic group
- Receive the full amount of student maintenance loan
- Have a declared disability
- Have spent more than 3 months in local authority care
- Be a registered carer
You must also:
- Have good interpersonal skills (able to engage and listen to others, put people at their ease)
- Have communication skills (able to explain concepts and instructions clearly)
- Have team working skills (able to work collaboratively with others to achieve goals)
- Have a strong interest in research in the fields of mental health and human neuroscience, and in a future research career
- Either: evidence of seeking out opportunities to gain experience with research or mental health practice; or involvement with community groups or patient/carer groups; or involvement in awareness raising or engagement activities around healthcare
