Role
The University of Gloucestershire has launched a suite of online courses in Business and Computer Science. We are continuing to develop our Virtual Learning Environment for the online courses, Canvas. We are looking for an Online Learning Support Officer to work closely with the Course Leaders and with the Instructional Designers in order to ensure that Canvas is ready. The role focuses on applying sound instructional design principles, creating engaging digital learning experiences, ensuring accessibility and inclusivity of all aspects of the VLE.
Duties and responsibilities
- Partner with the course leader and with module teams in Schools to revise online modules in Canvas, ensuring alignment with pedagogical best practices, learning outcomes, and university standards.
- In collaboration with relevant stakeholders, develop and maintain supporting materials, such as guides, templates, and video tutorials, tailored for the school and students engaging in online learning.
- Perform technical administration on Canvas and advise and support staff.
- Support user testing and feedback collection to improve the usability and effectiveness of learning and teaching applications.
- Promote equity and diversity for students and staff and sustain an inclusive and supportive study and work environment in accordance with university policy.
- To mount, test and maintain digital content (including course syllabus and other resources) in the Canvas virtual learning environment, including associated technologies, resolve any technical errors and ensure accuracy and integrity of materials.
- To undertake any other duties and responsibilities, commensurate with the grade of the post, properly directed by the line manager. These variations will not change the general character of the post or the level of responsibility entailed.
Skills and experience
Essential
- A first degree or equivalent
- A successful track record in the problem-solving
- Experience of using a VLE, preferably Canvas
- Understanding of the importance of equity and diversity within an organisation and a commitment to helping create an inclusive culture
- Understanding of the WCAG, the requirements of designing accessible software and its users
- Organise and manage projects with attention to detail and deadlines
- Use multimedia tools to create high quality online resources
- Develop software user guides, instructional videos and to update web pages
- Basic experience in HTML and CSS
