Role

With a rich history spanning over 125 years, City St. George’s, University of London Students’ Union (CSGSU) is the primary organisation representing the views of almost 30,000 students at City St. George’s, University of London to the institution and beyond.

CSGSU’s Welcome Crew is the union’s annual team of student staff who play a vital role in the delivery of the Union’s events and activities including Welcome/Fresher’s 2026. In 2025/26 the Union supercharged its events for students, delivering events from meet and greets, tote bag painting sessions to SummerFest and The Winter Fair. Welcome Week is our busiest time of the year and therefore all CSGSU Welcome Crew members are required to be available to work during this period.

As a member of CSGSU’s Welcome Crew, you’ll play a vital role in organizing, and executing a wide range of events that enhance the student experience and foster a sense of community within the institution. Our ideal candidates will have strong organisational skills, creativity, and a passion for delivering exceptional event experiences. You’ll be on the front line of delivering events, so outstanding customer service skills are a must!

Duties and responsibilities

• Assist in event logistics, such as event stewarding, fire marshalling, scanning tickets and answering attendee queries.

• Contribute creative ideas and themes to enhance event experiences and engage the student body during focus groups.

• Support event setup and teardown, including arranging seating, decorations, audio-visual equipment, and other necessary materials.

• Provide on-site event support, including managing registration/check-in, overseeing event flow, and addressing any attendee needs or concerns.

• Assist in event marketing and promotion efforts through various channels, including social media, posters, flyering, newsletters, and campus-wide announcements.

• Gather feedback from attendees and event participants and contribute to post-event evaluations.

• Maintain attendee lists and contact information for effective communication and future event planning.

• Stay informed about emerging event trends, industry best practices, and innovative event concepts.

General Responsibilities

• Represent and be an ambassador for the Union.

• To support the delivery of Students’ Union Officer and Assembly priorities across the year as needed.

• To provide briefings and policy updates to the Students’ Union Officers and other elected Student

Leaders as required.

• To adhere to all relevant Union policy, procedures, and governing documents at all times.

• To actively demonstrate commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion.

• To undertake appropriate training and development as required for the role.

• To assist in key Union activity and events throughout the year, including but not limited to Welcome, Elections, and the Micro-Placement Programme.

• To undertake any other duties appropriate to the role, role grade and organisation, within their competence as required by management.

• To provide operational cover or support for colleagues including absence and periods of peak workload as required.

• To treat any personal, private, or sensitive information about an individual or organisations and/or clients or staff confidentially in line with GDPR compliance.

• To actively engage in student-facing projects and activities of all kinds as required.

• To supervise temporary staff, Ambassadors, Micro-Placement students, or volunteers as required.

• To provide administrative support as required.

• Work independently and be administratively self-supporting

Skills and experience

Current enrolment as a student at City University of London.

  • Knowledge of the Higher Education sector or the Students’ Union sector
  • Creative mindset with the ability to contribute innovative ideas to improve the student experience.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to generate excitement around Union activities and events.
  • Prior experience in event planning, students’ union activities, or related roles is preferred but not required.
  • Commitment to sustainability and an understanding and commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Ability to work as part of a team with the capacity to lead, inspire and motivate others.
  • Ability to work independently under pressure with a positive attitude towards problem solving.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to multitask effectively.
  • To have a visible presence during events, that students won’t be afraid to approach.
  • Ability to work flexibly, including occasional evenings and weekends.
