Role
We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic student intern to join our team part-time for 10 weeks beginning 26th May. The right person will support an innovative community health project focused on improving engagement with lung cancer services in Kent and Medway.
This project aims to identify barriers and enablers of help seeking behaviours of people with early symptoms of lung cancer, like a persistent cough. Using community asset mapping approaches, a mix of in-person conversations, community-based engagement, and digital methods, we will gather insights from both professionals and the public.
The community conversations will take place in accessible, everyday settings such as community projects, shopping centres, and local gathering spaces, ensuring diverse voices are heard.
Duties and responsibilities
The student intern will play a key supporting role in both the data collection and co-design workshop phases of the project.
You will work closely with an experienced project team and receive ongoing support and guidance.
- Assist with community-based data collection (in-person and digital)
- Support engagement activities in community settings
- Help organise and deliver co-design workshops
- Contribute to capturing insights and documenting findings
- Provide general project support as needed
Skills and experience
- A current student (undergraduate or postgraduate) in public health, allied healthcare, or a related field
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Interest in community engagement, health inequalities, or participatory research
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Sensitivity and professionalism when working with diverse communities
