Description

Role
The University of Leicester is seeking a friendly, efficient, and proactive Sports Centre Receptionist to join our Sport & Active Life team until the 30th November 2026, with the potential for further extensions. As the first point of contact for members and visitors, the Front of House plays a vital role in ensuring a high-quality experience and smooth operation of our facilities. 

 
The successful candidate will bring exceptional communication skills, a passion for sport, and a dedication to outstanding customer service, supporting our commitment to a welcoming, inclusive, and active environment.

Duties and responsibilities

The postholder will provide a professional and welcoming reception service, responding to enquiries from members and visitors and offering accurate information about facilities, programmes, memberships and services. They will manage access control to ensure that only authorised users enter the facilities, while building positive working relationships with students, staff and community users to maintain a friendly and inclusive atmosphere.

The role includes responsibility for bookings and membership administration using the designated online booking system, processing applications, updating records and handling electronic payments securely in line with University procedures. The postholder will also support health and safety compliance through routine checks, reporting faults, maintaining cleaning standards in shared areas, completing general administrative tasks, and assisting with opening and closing procedures in accordance with operational requirements.

Skills and experience
Applicants must have a minimum of five GCSEs at grades A–C or equivalent and proven experience in a customer service role, ideally within a sports or leisure environment. Strong IT skills are essential, including competence in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook, with familiarity with leisure management booking systems considered an advantage. A basic understanding of health and safety practices and a commitment to maintaining safe environments is required.

 
The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a busy setting. They will be reliable, professional and comfortable handling sensitive information in line with GDPR requirements. 
 
Flexibility is essential, as the role involves working 35 hours per week over five days out of seven, including early mornings, evenings, weekends and bank holidays, in line with Sports Centre operational hours.

Danielle Brown Sports Centre or Roger Bettles Sports Centre, University of Leicester (Potential for cross-site working, but a base site will be allocated to you if successful)
