Role
The University of Leicester is seeking a friendly, efficient and proactive Sports Assistant to join the Sport & Active Life team, based at the Roger Bettles Sports Centre, with potential for cross-site working across University sports facilities. This is a temporary role for 6 months with the possibility of extension, offering an excellent opportunity to support an inclusive and vibrant sporting environment within a leading UK university.
Working as part of a small and supportive team, the post holder will play a key role in delivering a high-quality customer experience for students, staff and visitors, contributing to the daily operation of the Sports Centre and supporting the University’s commitment to wellbeing, physical activity and community engagement.
Duties and responsibilities
The Sports Assistant will contribute to the effective operation of the Sports Centre and associated facilities by opening and securing buildings, managing bookings, and providing front-line customer service. Responsibilities will include selling and administering memberships, taking court fees, and supporting users of the facilities in a professional and welcoming manner.
The role also involves undertaking wet-side duties, monitoring and recording Health and Safety information including pool and spa water tests, and carrying out cleaning tasks to ensure facilities remain safe, clean and compliant. The post holder will work a 35-hour week across five days out of seven, including evenings, weekends and bank holidays, in line with operational requirements.
Skills and experience
Applicants should have a minimum of five GCSEs at grade C or above, or equivalent qualifications and experience, along with experience of working in a customer service environment. Strong communication skills, reliability and the ability to work effectively as part of a team are essential for success in this role.
Previous experience within a recreational or leisure environment would be advantageous, as would knowledge of Health and Safety policies and procedures. The role would particularly suit an individual with enthusiasm for sport, fitness and physical activity, who is committed to delivering a positive experience for a diverse range of facility users.
