Role
Overall Purpose of the Role
To assist in the collection of data from a funded research project and in accordance with the project’s deliverables as specified in the project contractual arrangements. The research assistant will be tasked with coding qualitative data from survey and recorded semi-structured interviews. Once data is collected, the research assistant will then code transcripts based on a coding manual.

Duties and responsibilities
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
•Assist Researchers in the conducting of Faculty research and evaluation.
•Responsibility for establishing effective systems for collection of data, and subsequent recording and collation of data.
•Organise and support qualitative research and evaluation.
•Develop and maintain working relationships within the institution and externally.
•Work both independently and as a member of a team.
•Compile reports and other written information as required.
•Support at workshops, conferences and other dissemination events.
Generic Duties and Responsibilities
•The post holder will be expected to undertake other responsibilities and tasks as reasonably requested by the Principle Investigator.

Skills and experience
Person Specification
1. Degree in Social Sciences (e.g. psychology, sociology, criminology or relevant discipline)
2. Undertaking or have obtained a Ph.D. in a relevant subject area
3. Member of relevant professional body
4. Experience of coding interview transcripts in a quantified way (i.e. coding for detail types based of a coding manual).
5. A positive attitude towards working with and assisting people with a wide variety of needs & working in diverse environments
6. Communicate effectively with the research team members and research participants with directive and progress information
7. Experience of administrative work for meetings and management of project(s)
8. Experience of day to day organisation of own workload within framework of agreed activity
9. Use of standard and project specific research techniques and methods, including experimental research designs
10. Analyse interpret results of own research and generate original ideas based on outcomes
11. Use of electronic systems and programmes for modelling, data processing and analysis
12. Good organisational skills to collect and merge several different data streams into unified and confidential database
13. Excellent written and oral communication skills
15. Knowledge of UK HE sector
