Description

Role
We are looking for a motivated and digitally capable Heriot-Watt student to take ownership of a specialist data project within the Information Governance team. This is a rare opportunity to work independently on a real technical challenge, demonstrate your database skills, and deliver a project with real operational impact.

The work involves analysing and extracting records from legacy, unsupported local databases and preparing them for secure storage in a new location. Each stage of the process must be documented clearly and professionally. This is a project you can truly make your own and ideal for someone who enjoys problem solving and working with data.

Duties and responsibilities
It is anticipated this role will be divided into two phases. The first phase is a short planning assignment of around seven hours to put together a proposed plan and timeframe for completing the project. And then a second phase to carry out the extraction of all relevant records and transferring them to the new storage location. It is essential that each stage of the project is documented in a clear and structured way.

The role is flexible and can be arranged around other student commitments however the main tasks must be completed at the Edinburgh campus when Information Governance team members are available, as this ensures access to the necessary systems and support.
