Role
We are seeking a student intern to join the Learning & Teaching Team and support its objec-tives and commitment to providing an inclusive educational experience to Middlesex students. The successful candidate will work closely with Learning Designers and Academic Developers to produce student-facing materials, develop an open-access space to host these resources, and conduct research to test and gather feedback on the outputs of both ongoing and new projects aimed at enhancing the academic experience of students at Middlesex. This is an exciting opportunity to gain insight into learning and teaching environments, develop and apply technical and design skills, and contribute to meaningful projects while networking with col-leagues across a range of departments.

Duties and responsibilities

  • To contribute to the development of student‑facing guidance.
  • To co‑develop an open space on LibGuides to store learning and teaching resources for both staff and students.
  • To provide administrative support and actively participate in a range of ongoing and new projects.
  • To test learning materials and obtain feedback from students through focus groups or other appropriate formats.
  • To conduct small‑scale primary and secondary research on student experiences.
  • To support the Annual Learning & Teaching Conference (ALTC) committee with con-ference organisation and provide support on the day of the event.
  • To learn about, test, and provide feedback on tools and technologies that address issues raised through student voice and learning and teaching delivery.
  • To support the Centre for Academic Practice Enhancement in identifying areas for im-provement in student support.
  • To contribute to the review and update of induction schedules and materials..

Skills and experience
Eseential

  • An interest in learning and teaching in HE, including student experience and inclusive practice.
  • Strong interpersonal and intercultural communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff and students.
  • Basic research skills (e.g. collecting feedback and summarising findings through Stu-dent Voice representation or other student projects).
  • Strong time management skills and ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong understanding of the student lifecycle in HE (from entry to completion).
  • Experience with Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel, Adobe packages.
  • An interest in developing employability and professional skills.
Desirable
  • Studying in a relevant area such as education, digital marketing, communications.
  • Experience in conducting research.
  • Experience of producing clear and accessible written content for students.
  • Experience of using or populating platforms such as LibGuides.
  • Experience supporting events.

In-person only (Hendon campus – Fenella)

This internship has been designed to strengthen key professional skills, including (but not limited to) communication, project management, collaboration, and problem-solving. The Learning Design and Academic Development teams will work closely with you to introduce you to our work while also drawing on your experience as a student to help enhance the experience of other students. You will have an opportunity to actively participate in project work to develop your skills and will have a large team around you to support you.

The role supports collaborative working with Learning Designers and Academic Developers, builds resilience through managing multiple projects and evolving feedback, enhances Technological Agility through use of digital learning tools, and develops problem‑solving and delivery by refining guidance into student‑centred resources that support a more inclusive learning environment.
