Role
As a Student Communications Coordinator, you will play a key role in supporting the Student Engagement and Communications team by crafting clear, engaging, and informative content aimed at current students. Your primary responsibility will be the creation of a monthly newsletter featuring important university updates, events, and activities, along with the design and development of email templates for communications. You will have the opportunity to develop your skills in copywriting, digital marketing, and creative content design while contributing to a range of communication campaigns.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Create a monthly newsletter: Curate and write content for the university's monthly newsletter, ensuring it highlights important updates, events, and activities relevant to students.  

  • Design and format newsletters: Work closely with the team to ensure newsletters are visually appealing, user-friendly, and adhere to the university's brand guidelines.  

  • Develop email templates: Create reusable templates for email communications, ensuring they are accessible, well-organised, and ready to be used for various student-facing announcements.  

  • Write email content: Assist in drafting engaging and informative email content that will be sent to students, promoting university events and services.  

  • Contribute to MyMDX updates: Help update and maintain the content on the MyMDX student portal to ensure it aligns with communications strategies and provides students with timely, relevant information.  

  • Collaborate with teams: Work closely with the wider communications and student engagement teams to ensure content consistency across all platforms. 

  • Administrative functions: Assisting with the development and organisation of a portfolio of all communications produced. 

Skills and experience

Essential: 

  • Strong interest in communications, digital marketing, and copywriting, with a keen desire to learn and develop in these areas.  

  • Experience with Microsoft Office tools (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and an understanding of design tools like Canva or Adobe Creative Suite is a plus.  

  • Ability to manage time effectively, meet deadlines, and work independently when required.  

  • Creative thinking and problem-solving skills.  

  • Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively within a team.  

  • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.  

Desirable: 

  • Recently graduated in marketing, communications, digital marketing, or a related field.  

  • Previous experience with content creation such as blogs, social media posts, or newsletters.  

  • Familiarity with email marketing platforms or web content management systems is a bonus.

In-person only (Hendon campus or business office)

You will also gain exposure to a variety of roles within the university’s communications team, giving you valuable insight into different aspects of marketing, branding, and student engagement. 

Throughout your internship, you will be mentored by the Student Communications and Engagement Officer, and you will have the chance to meet other professionals within the Student Engagement and Experience Team.
