Role
MDXSU is looking for a student intern to take ownership of building and refining our student engagement dashboard, a central tool that helps us understand how students are interacting with MDXSU.
Over 8 – 10 weeks, you’ll work closely with the Data & Insight Coordinator to pull together data from across our platforms, structure it in a way that’s clear and consistent, and present it in a dashboard that staff and student officers can actually use. By the end of your internship, the dashboard should be up and running and ready to hand over as a live tool for the team.
This is a project-based internship with a real, tangible output. You’ll leave with something you can point to and say: I built that.
Duties and responsibilities
Your main focus will be the MDXSU engagement dashboard. This means:

Pulling together engagement data from MDXSU’s platforms and collected data sets

Building or updating the dashboard itself, using tools like Excel or a data visualisation platform

Designing the layout and structure of the dashboard so it’s easy to read and genuinely useful to non-data people like student officers, managers, and coordinators

Setting up the data inputs so the dashboard is as easy as possible to update going forward, after the internship ends

Writing a short handover document so the Data & Insight Coordinator and wider team know how to maintain and update it

Presenting your finished dashboard to the Communications & Insight team at the end of the internship
Skills and experience

Is comfortable working with spreadsheets or data tools

Has a good eye for how to present information clearly (you understand that a dashboard should be readable at a glance, not just technically accurate)

Is organised and able to manage their own project workload across a fixed timeframe

Is a reliable communicator: you’ll have regular check-ins with the Data & Insight Coordinator and need to flag blockers early

Is curious about student engagement and genuinely interested in understanding how students interact with MDXSU

Is studying something related, like data, business, marketing, computer science, or similar, though we welcome applications from any course if you can demonstrate the relevant skills

This role builds Leadership and Influence by owning a major analytical project and shaping how MDXSU understands student engagement through a live dashboard.
