Role
Primary Duty: The Classics Invigilator and Exams Admin Assistant will be responsible for assisting with exam script administration duties and invigilating examinations for students with Reasonable Adjustments within the Classics and Ancient History Department. Invigilation will be carried out in line with the invigilator’s handbook and relevant university and departmental policies.
Secondary Duty: They may be asked to assist with other administrative duties e.g. collecting exam scripts for marking, adding marks to Tabula, etc.
Duties and responsibilities
It is the responsibility of the Classics Invigilator and Exams Admin Assistant to ensure:
- Examinations are conducted in compliance with the regulations agreed by the Senate.
- The security of the examination papers and materials.
- All students receive a consistent experience for their examinations.
- Compliance with the processes and practices set out in the Guidance for Invigilators and/or by the department.
- Students’ reasonable adjustments are accurately and sensitively applied during exam sessions.
- Relevant paperwork is accurately completed and returned.
- Administrative exams tasks are completed in a timely manner and with attention to detail.
Invigilation in the Classics Department will be for approx. 5-15 students per room with additional support based in the same building. There may be a requirement to invigilate for Faculty exams for students with Reasonable Adjustments too.
Skills and experience
- The Classics Invigilator and Exams Admin Assistant will be required to be (or to become) familiar with the invigilation requirements as set out by the Exams Office and Classics and Ancient History department, including reading in full the invigilators handbook which will be provided electronically.
- A general level of disability awareness, and the ability to act with tact and sensitivity, is desirable to effectively support students with reasonable adjustments.
- Previous experience of invigilation, and of administration would be beneficial but is not essential.
- All necessary and appropriate training and information will be provided.
