Description
Role
The invigilator will be responsible for invigilating special arrangement examinations within the Department of Statistics in line with the University’s Examination Regulations, ensuring all students have consistent experience of their examinations in a secure, confidential, and appropriate environment.
Up to 7 Statistics Invigilators will be required. Please note that current Undergraduate and Postgraduate Taught students are unfortunately not eligible for this post.
Duties and responsibilities
It is the responsibility of the invigilator to ensure that examination invigilation complies with the processes and practices set out in the Guidance for Invigilators and/or by the Department of Statistics:
- Preparation of the exam venue by laying out examination materials
- To allow students entry to the examination room ensuring compliance with the examination regulations.
- To ensure, if managing an Alternative Exam Arrangements room, that specific reasonable adjustments are provided for individual students in line with the instructions from the Statistics Support Office.
- To make announcements at the appropriate time.
- Recording attendance, checking student identity against their ID card, and ensuring absent students are correctly recorded.
- To report all queries on examination papers to the Statistics Support Office.
- To report suspected breaches of examination regulations and/or suspicious student behaviour to the Statistics Support Office and ensure the relevant documentation is completed and submitted.
- Collecting and reconciling examination scripts after the examination.
- At peak periods during the summer examination period, assisting the Statistics Support Office with basic data entry, sorting and checking of the examination scripts.
- Any other duties as required by the Taught Programmes Manager and the Programmes Administrator, commensurate with the requirements and responsibilities of the role.
Invigilation in the Department of Statistics will typically be for groups of 4 to 12 students per room working alongside other support invigilators, or for one-to-one invigilation for students requiring a sole venue for their examination, with additional support based in the same building.
Skills and experience
Essential
Educated at GCSE level or equivalent, including grades A–C in Maths and English. (Measured by: Application Form)
Ability to work with minimal supervision. (Measured by: Application Form / Interview)
Good verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to give clear and accurate instructions. (Measured by: Application Form / Interview)
Ability to follow documented processes and procedures. (Measured by: Application Form / Interview)
Ability to understand and maintain confidentiality, with an awareness of GDPR. (Measured by: Application Form / Interview)
Availability to work in the early evening and Saturdays. (Measured by: Application Form / Interview)
Desirable
Experience of invigilation in an educational setting. (Measured by: Application Form / Interview)
