Role

Participation Team Overview The UoN Sports Participation Programme aims to increase student engagement in physical activity, volunteering and inclusive sport. Successful candidates will join a small but integral team dedicated to engaging, including and empowering students to participate in sport and physical activity at the University of Nottingham. Our approach places students at the heart of everything we do. Ambassadors will receive support from UoN Sport staff, alongside tailored personal development opportunities. This role is well suited to hardworking and innovative individuals seeking to gain valuable, transferable experience for future employment. We are recruiting two Disability Sport Ambassadors for the 2026/27 academic year, to work alongside the Disability Sport Officer to: 

  • Enhance sport and physical activity provision for disabled students 
  • Represent the voices of disabled students and raise awareness of available support and opportunities 
  • Promote key initiatives, campaigns and awareness days related to disability and mental health in sport

Start Date: 31/08/2026

End Date: 30/07/2027

Working Hours: 6 to 8 hours per week - To be arranged by hiring manager

Pay Rate: £12.71 per hour

Holiday Pay Rate: £1.53 per hour

Location: David Ross Sports Village

Dress Code: Smart Casual

Duties and responsibilities

  • Create new opportunities to engage, include and empower disabled students in sport and physical activity 
  • Build partnerships with disabled students and key networks to better understand experiences, barriers to participation and opportunities for development Marketing and Communications 
  • Develop innovative ideas to raise awareness of disability sport, physical activity and the available support across the university 
  • Create and share engaging content on the Inclusive Sport Instagram page to promote disability sport participation opportunities 
  • Create and share engaging content on the Inclusive Sport Instagram page to promote key awareness campaigns linked to disability sport, including but not limited to content for the Men’s Health Active campaign

Skills and experience

  • Current undergraduate or postgraduate student at the University of Nottingham (Essential) 
  • Minimum of one year remaining on course (Essential) 
  • Knowledge Understanding of barriers and facilitators to participation for disabled people and those with long-term health conditions (Essential) 
  • Awareness of relevant university networks to support partnership working (Essential) 
  • Knowledge of the Social Model of Disability (Desirable) 
  • Lived experience of disability and/or long-term health conditions (including mental health conditions) or experience working with disabled people (Desirable) 
  • Strong inclusive communication skills, with the ability to adapt to different audiences (Essential) 
  • Experience managing or contributing to social media platforms (Essential)
  • Confident IT user, including Microsoft Office and design tools (Essential)
  • Passion for inclusive sport and physical activity (Essential) 
  • Creative and innovative mindset (Essential) 
  • Strong collaborator with the ability to work independently (Essential)
  • Well organised with effective time management skills (Essential) 
  • Committed to personal development (Essential)
