Role

This is an exciting opportunity to work for a company who were, established in 1675 and are, dedicated to delivering healthy and nutritious wholegrain oats to customers worldwide. With over 350 years of expertise, the company combines deep-rooted knowledge with innovative approaches to oat processing and manufacturing. 

They are seeking a trainee software developer to join them for a year-long sandwich placement, roughly from July 2026 - July 2027, gaining hands-on programming experience

Working days and hours are Monday - Friday, 9am - 5pm.

The job requires you to be in the office 5 days a week, no remote work available. The company are based in Crewe and are a 15 minute walk from Crewe train station. 

Duties and responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain software applications according to business requirements.
  • Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code following industry best practices.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including designers, product managers, and other developers.
  • Troubleshoot, debug, and optimize existing software to enhance performance.
  • Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback.
  • Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and best practices.
  • Ensure security, scalability, and reliability of software applications.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of code, processes, and system architecture.

Skills and experience

  • Experience as a Software Developer or similar role would be desirable
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Python, JavaScript, C#, or similar.
  • Experience with front-end and back-end development frameworks (e.g., React, Angular, Node.js, .NET, or Django).
  • Understanding of databases (SQL, NoSQL) and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud).
  • Knowledge of software development methodologies, such as Agile or Scrum.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
