Role
The University of Northampton is recruiting enthusiastic and proactive Student Career Coaches to join the Student Futures team for the 2026–27 academic year.
As a Student Career Coach, you will be a friendly, approachable first point of contact in the Student Futures Hub, providing peer to peer careers and employability support to fellow students and recent graduates. You will use your own student experience to guide others, acting as a student advocate for Student Futures by confidently representing the service, promoting available support, and helping students understand how Student Futures can support their next steps.
You will work closely with teams across Student Futures, gaining valuable insight into the careers, employability, and enterprise support available at the University. Full training will be provided.
Duties and responsibilities
Welcome and support all students accessing the Student Futures Hub (in person and online), offering support with careers and employability, signposting to resources, and referring specialist queries to Careers & Employability Partners, the Placements team, and Unitemps.
Support students with job searching, CVs, cover letters, supporting statements, and interview preparation.
Deliver short presentations to students in classrooms and at events to promote Student Futures services.
Create and feature in student facing promotional content, including social media, video, photography, or written case studies that bring the Student Futures offer to life.
Supporting the UON & Student Futures events throughout the year, as required, such as the Careers Expo, Student Futures week, etc.
Design and run interactive careers and employability mini activities to encourage student engagement.
Actively advocate for the Student Futures offer, promoting events, opportunities, and initiatives across campus.
Use digital platforms, including Target Connect, to help students explore careers, employability and enterprise pathways, events, and the job board.
Accurately record student interactions using University systems, in line with data protection and confidentiality requirements.
Carry out some administrative duties.
Attend training sessions and team meetings.
Skills and experience
This role is open to University of Northampton students enrolled for the full 2026–27 academic year who can demonstrate:
Excellent communication skills, including active listening and asking clear, open questions.
A friendly, proactive approach when supporting students and representing Student Futures.
Strong time management skills, with the ability to balance work alongside academic studies.
The ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently when required.
Confidence engaging fellow students and promoting events, opportunities, and initiatives.
Willingness to appear on camera and contribute to digital and social media content.

Additional information
Training week
You must be available to work between 10 am and 4 pm, Monday to Friday, for training starting Monday 14th September 26.
After training, the role is a flexible, variable‑hours role. Students typically work an average of 6 hours per week, though hours may increase during busy periods and decrease during quieter times.
Expected Start date: Monday, 14 September 2026 (paid training provided)
Ongoing training and support will be provided throughout the role.
