Role
*Ringfenced to LJMU working towards a degree in Wildlife conservation, Ecology, Environmental Science, Biology, Zoology or a related field ONLY.*

 
This research assistant role will be supporting long term monitoring of dragonfly communities at Gowy Meadows LNR, which is part of a research studying climate change impacts on ecological communities. This project will be working with researchers from LJMU and Uni of Chester studying colonisation dynamics at newly created ponds at Gowy Meadows, along side long term monitoring of damselfly communities at a range of established ponds at the site. 
 

Duties and responsibilities

This role involves 

  • Conducting field surveys in a variety of freshwater habitats
  • Identifying and recording abundance of Odonata species
  • Collecting physiological data in the lab in collaboration with the Uni of Chester 
  • Gathering data on environmental conditions, such as water quality and habitat types. 
  • Data will need to be entered accurately into a project database, and the assistant will help analysis and report findings.

Skills and experience
The ideal candidate will be working towards a degree in 

  • Wildlife conservation
  • Ecology
  • Environmental Science
  • Biology
  • Zoology or a related field, 
  • With experience in field research and species identification (preferably damselflies or other insects). 
  • Strong organizational and data management skills are essential. 
  • The role requires outdoor work in variable weather conditions, so a passion for nature and the ability to work independently is important.
  • A driving license and access to their own vehicle is required.
