Duties and responsibilities
We are seeking a motivated student or graduate who is interested in working as a violence prevention research assistant. The role will be based within the Violence, Peace and Health Risk Behaviours Research Team, within the Public Health Institute. The research assistant will contribute to a range of research and knowledge exchange activities, with a particular focus on a study aiming to develop a comprehensive high-level picture of Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) across Merseyside. Under supervision, the post holder will:
1. Support with the development of research ethical approval documentation, including the development of participant information sheets and interview guides.
2. Implement consultations with multi-agency partners to map available data sources and data sharing processes, and areas of good practice/areas for development; and, collect and analyse interview data.
3. Collation and analyse quantitative data on VAWG integrating police records, health data, specialist third sector intelligence, and community survey findings.
4. Develop case studies to exemplify the nature, extent and impacts of VAWG across Merseyside.
5. Assist with output production.
6. Provide project administration support, including note taking of multi-agency meetings, updating of project monitoring records and scheduling.
Skills and experience
The applicant should meet the following criteria:
Hold a completed (or near complete) masters in public health, psychology, health, mathematics, criminal justice, policing or other related field
Have good knowledge of a public health approach in violence prevention
Have previous experience of quantitative data analyses including inferential statistics (using SPSS)
Have an interest in violence prevention
Must be IT literate
Must be able to write in a high standard of English.
Desirable criteria include:
Have experience of engaging with partners across statutory and third sector organisations
