Description

Role

The University Student Experience & Engagement Team is seeking a group of students to join our team from October 2026 until July 2027, working part-time hours alongside your studies. You will be based in The Nook, a community space for students at the centre of campus, working with other students and with Student Experience team staff.

The purpose of The Nook is to be a relaxing, inviting space where students can take a break, meet others, explore university opportunities, and join in programmed activities if they wish.

The Projects & Activity Assistant will be a varied and exciting role, working on a shift basis to oversee the new space, suggest and lead activities, communicate with others using the space, and be an active member of the Student Experience team.

Time requirement

We are looking for students who can work approximately 8 hours per week during term-time, in blocks of 4 hours. There are expectations that you will be available for at least one of the following shifts each week, to support the scheduled events which occur at these times:

Tuesday 13.00-17.00

Wednesday 13.00-17.00

Thursday 13.00-17.00

In addition to a 4-hour shift that will take place either from 9.30-13.30 or 13.00-17.00 on a regular day and time that you choose.  Additional shifts (over 8 hours) are not guaranteed but may be available.

This position is currently open to current University of Warwick students only. We seek applications from a diverse range of academic departments, levels of study, nationalities, backgrounds and from underrepresented communities (such as LGBTQUIA+ or students with disabilities).

Your duties will involve some or all of:

• Staffing The Nook, a lounge space for students at the heart of campus- being the student face of The Nook space, and creating a friendly environment

• Welcoming students, sharing information about university opportunities and services, and handling enquiries

• Supporting design and facilitation of a range of student events, including hands-on event support (set up and pack down)

• Supporting social media content creation for the @WarwickTogether Instagram and other channels

• Design and update of digital signage- including creative direction and suggestions

• Logging information about student use of the space and student enquiries

• Working day to day with Student Experience & Engagement staff and attending regular planning meetings with the Student Experience & Engagement Team

• Providing help with other projects to improve the Warwick student experience

This role is a great opportunity to develop your interpersonal, organisational, creative and leadership skills, engaging with students from different backgrounds and with different interests. You will be a key contributor to the development and success of The Nook, ensuring it is relevant and meets students’ needs.

If shortlisted, you will be invited to attend an Assessment Day with the Student Experience & Engagement team.

Duties and responsibilities

You will be involved in some or all of the following activities. Support and supervision will be given by Student Experience staff; however independent working and initiative will be required.

Running The Nook (central campus – open to all students from all departments)

• Welcoming students coming into the space and engaging them in conversation if they wish to do so

• Keeping the space organised and tidy

• Suggesting new ideas and activities- we are particularly keen for this to be a student-led space where possible, and you would be pivotal to that

• Keeping records of footfall and how the space is being used

• Setting up/packing down of events and activities

• Checking students in, troubleshooting and completing post-event forms

• Preparing materials/resources, keeping storage organised, stock checks and light admin

• Peer engagement & communication

• Any other duties as required by the needs of the department, as appropriate

Engaging your peers and disseminating information about opportunities

Building a good knowledge and staying up to date with the services and opportunities available for students across the University. Encouraging others through conversation to consider their interests and how to get more involved if they want to.  Gathering insights on the different activities that appeal to different students.

Co-designing, delivering and hosting activities

Working with Student Experience staff and independently to co-design and help with student roundtable discussions, to host speakers, and provide logistical support for events, activities, games and crafting.

Capturing content for the @WarwickTogether Instagram

You'll be part of the team that runs the Together at Warwick Instagram and supports student communications. Depending on your skills and interests, this may include contributing to content planning, capturing content at our events and featuring on the channel. There will be opportunities to get involved both behind and in front of the camera.

Student experience improvement projects

Working with staff and independently on projects agreed by the Student Experience team to improve the student experience on a range of themes.

We value diverse experiences and recognise that skills can be gained in many ways—through work, volunteering, education, or personal experiences. We understand that few candidates will meet every listed criterion or have experience in a similar role. If you're excited about this opportunity, and believe your skills and experiences align, we encourage you to apply. Your unique perspective may be just what we need!

Skills and experience

We are seeking to employ current Warwick students with the following attributes:

• Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage empathetically with other people from all backgrounds and nationalities

• Interest in event management and facilitation- we are looking for people who can confidently lead and host, not just helping

• Sound judgement and ability to make decisions without direct supervision

• Reliable, enthusiastic and proactive

• Excellent team working skills

• Ability to work under pressure, using initiative to solve problems

• A creative attitude and enthusiasm for testing and developing ideas in a diverse team

• Ability to work independently and take the initiative- we are particularly keen to have our student-staff take some level of ownership of the management of the space

We are committed to building an organisation of mutual respect and dignity, promoting a welcoming, diverse, and inclusive working and learning environment. We recognise that everyone is different in a variety of visible and non-visible ways, and that those differences are to be recognised, respected, and valued.  If you require any accommodations at any stage of the application or interview process, please let us know by reaching out to studentexperience@warwick.ac.uk we’ll do our best to support you.
