Role

 
Our client, who works in the special education sector wish to provide an opportunity for a dedicated Finance Assistant to join our supportive team. As part of the role, you will handle all aspects of financial processing, monitoring, and control charge expenditures in addition to assisting the Finance Team.
This hybrid/remote role will ensure accurate financial processing, timely reconciliations, and efficient administrative support to maintain smooth finance function operations across the organisation. You will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy of payroll data, financial records, supporting processes, and contributing to the continuous improvement of finance procedures. 

Duties and responsibilities

  • Financial processing & reporting.
  • Accurately process supplier invoices and staff expenses transactions in line with company policies.
  • Support the preparation of monthly financial statements.
  • Assist with data entry, reconciliations, and preparation of financial schedules.
  • Maintain accurate records and filing systems (digital and/or paper). 

Risk, compliance & control.

  • Support the team in ensuring compliance with HMRC regulations, accounting. standards, and internal policies.
  • Assist with audit preparation, providing accurate and timely documentation.
  • Follow internal control procedures to safeguard company assets. 

Operational finance

  • Prepare cash flow forecast figures and payment runs, including supplier payments and payroll support.
  • Complete bank reconciliations and ensure all transactions are recorded accurately.
  • Support VAT returns and other statutory submissions.
  • Monitor and track purchase orders, budgets, and expense claims. 

Stakeholder communication & support

  • Respond promptly to finance-related queries from internal teams and external suppliers.
  • Liaise with the Finance Manager and other departments to resolve issues efficiently.
  • Provide administrative and logistical support for finance projects. 

Process improvement & team contribution.

  • Suggest and support improvements to finance systems and processes.
  • Contribute to the implementation of tools that enhance accuracy and efficiency.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to share knowledge and ensure best practice. 

Skills and experience

  • AAT qualified or working towards, or equivalent finance experience.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and financial processes.
  • Experience of finance software systems (Sage Cloud beneficial).
  • Strong attention to detail and able to produce work with a high level of accuracy.
  • Experience of using IT systems, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
