Role
This project promotes digital equity by empowering members from under-represented communities to co-produce data visualisations and tools that examine and challenge the impact of neutrality as a guiding principle in a particular and relevant case of digital good: OpenStreetMap [OSM]. Now that this project is coming to an end, this funding will be used to employ two students to collate material and build a public engagement website from the research that can continue to used for public engagement. The website will be based on the Quarto framework and will include working with interactive maps and the R programming language. 

Duties and responsibilities

  • Review and propose enhancements to public engagement resources
  • Participate actively in generating ideas about how to best create portals to engage with our research output
  • Create and test potential new public engagement resources
  • Promote a project and engage with project stakeholders (for example by email, in online and in-person meetings, and at collaborative workshops)
  • Give presentations at meetings
  • Identify, survey and gather information and content
  • Develop website and online materials

Skills and experience
Essential

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex ideas in simple language
  • An organised approach and ability to adhere to deadlines
  • Excellent team working skills
  • A professional attitude
  • A creative approach to testing and developing ideas in a diverse team
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to draw conclusions and recommendations from information available
  • Excellent IT skills and ability to learn new skills e.g. for editing workshop materials, creating evaluation forms, and engaging with stakeholders online
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Confidence in providing insights from own experience
  • Experience of managing a diverse workload and balancing different projects
  • Ability to demonstrate and communicate ideas, techniques, and knowledge
  • Experience of R programming 

Desirable

  • Experience with web hosting, git and geographic data
