Description

Role

We are seeking a Research Assistant to support a qualitative research project exploring the experiences of caregivers of preterm-born children during the primary school years (ages 5–11).

The project aims to understand how caregivers support their child’s development, the barriers they encounter, and what resources or support would benefit families during this period.

The Research Assistant will play a key role in conducting qualitative interviews and supporting data collection and management. This is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in qualitative methods, developmental psychology, and working with families.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Assisting with the recruitment of study participants
  • Scheduling interviews with caregivers
  • Conducting online semi-structured interviews (~60 minutes) with parents/caregivers
  • Writing brief interview notes and reflexive memos
  • Supporting transcription and ensuring accuracy of transcripts
  • Managing and securely storing audio recordings and transcripts in line with data protection guidelines

Skills and experience

  • A good honours degree (minimum 2:1 or equivalent) in psychology or a related field
  • Experience conducting qualitative research, particularly in-depth or semi-structured interviews
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to build rapport with participants discussing potentially sensitive topics
  • Experience working with populations similar to the current project (e.g. patients, caregivers, parents of vulnerable children)
  • Fluency in English (spoken and written)
  • High level of sensitivity, empathy, and professionalism
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a research team

Location
The work can be done remotely.
