Role
The Student Welcome and Induction Team are a small team, and we’re focused on giving new students the best welcome to UCL. We are looking for two temporary Student Welcome and Induction Assistants to contribute to the planning and delivery of events and communications for this year's welcome period at both the Bloomsbury and East Campuses. This role will be managed by the Senior Student Welcome and Induction Officer.
The skills you’ll gain in this role like social media, event management, and administration will all have a real-world impact on new students and staff. Therefore, a strong attention to detail, is vital to ensure students get accurate and useful information. As you’ll be working closely with lots of people, being a team player is important. You’ll enjoy brainstorming and problem solving with the Student Welcome and Induction Team when things change at the last minute, especially when you’re on campus supporting welcome ambassadors and managing queues.

Duties and responsibilities
Event Administration
- Produce or update event materials e.g. PowerPoints, Eventbrite pages, evaluation forms.
- Assist with gathering and analysis of basic data and feedback from surveys.
- To collaborate on the development and content of digital information for students, such as social media campaigns, webpages, or application resources (UCL Go).To provide administrative support to student staff e.g. Welcome Ambassador. Including assisting with the planning and running of training sessions.
- To monitor the Welcome and Induction inbox and respond to queries, referring more complex ones to the Senior Welcome and Induction Officer.
- To communicate with UCL and student staff to confirm event details and answer questions.
- To support Senior Welcome and Induction Officers with the execution of events, e.g. answering new student questions, delivering presentations, briefing ambassadors.
Welcome Delivery
- To support the Student Welcome and Induction team deliver Welcome and Induction activities at Bloomsbury and East campuses. This includes assisting with the flow of students into ID card collection points and helpdesk areas.
- To support and assist the team delivering daily morning briefings to welcome ambassadors and ensuring they are in their assigned position during the welcome period.
- Provide support to service delivery staff with ad hoc queries.
- Student Welcome & Induction Assistant (Events)
Focus: Supporting central welcome events and communication channels. This work involves supporting the planning, logistics and delivery of essential central welcome events, which include UCL's Undergraduate and Postgraduate induction talks and extensive support fair. You will contribute to the creation and updating of digital communication, such as website, apps, SharePoint and social media. In addition, you will support the recruitment and management of student workers which includes student presenters for our induction events, Welcome Ambassadors and Transition Mentors.
- Student Welcome & Induction (International)
Focus: Supporting international students’ transition to UCL. This work involves supporting the event planning and delivery associated with international orientation, pre-arrival activity such as webinars and social media comms, and international week in person activities. The role also supports the recruitment, training, administration and management of student Welcome Ambassadors – throughout the summer and during our on campus welcome activities.
Skills and experience
- Educated to A-level (or equivalent) with relevant qualifications.
- Experience in customer-facing roles with a strong understanding of good customer service.
- Administrative experience with solid IT skills, including Microsoft Office and the ability to learn new systems quickly.
- Experience in event planning and management.
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written), with the ability to produce clear, accurate documents and engage different audiences.
- Organised and adaptable team player, able to manage multiple deadlines, work independently, and demonstrate cultural awareness and collaboration.

Hourly Pay: £16.76

Additional information
The role is based at UCL Bloomsbury, London WC1, with activity taking place across both Bloomsbury and UCL East campuses.
Student and Registry Services operates hybrid working, with a minimum expectation of one day per week in the office (Thursday).
During the main Welcome period in September–October, the role will require full-time on-campus working and extended hours.
Temporary role from 11 June – 09 October 2026
Working pattern: Full-time (36.5 hours per week, Monday-Friday).
