Role
The Research Assistant will provide hands-on support across all phases of the project investigating the responsible design and deployment of large language model (LLM)-driven financial advice systems. This interdisciplinary project combines Human-Computer Interaction and behavioural science to examine how consumers understand, trust, and act on AI-generated financial guidance, and how such systems can be designed to be fair, accurate, and user-centred. This is a fixed-term position for an initial six-month period (May 2026 – October 2026), with the possibility of extension. The postholder will also have the opportunity to engage with a broad spectrum of stakeholders, including industry practitioners, regulatory bodies, consumers, and representatives from civil society.

• Data Collection and Analysis: Support the design and delivery of consumer and expert focus groups; Assist with moderating sessions where appropriate and taking detailed field notes; Conduct thematic analysis of qualitative data using established methods, contributing to the identification of key insights on trust, risk perception, and user experience.

• Experimental Design and Implementation: Contribute to the design and development of a large-scale, pre-registered behavioural experiment; Assist in preparing and testing experimental materials (e.g., survey instruments, LLM interaction interfaces); Support pilot testing and refinement of experimental protocols; Monitor data collection processes to ensure quality, consistency, and adherence to research protocols.

• Reporting and Dissemination: Contribute to the preparation of research reports, academic papers, and policy briefs; Assist in preparing presentations and materials for dissemination events.
