Role
The Data Reporting Requirements Analyst will undertake a focused piece of work to define the business and technical requirements for a new School-wide reporting database, with Snowflake as a possible contender. The postholder will work closely with data owners, the Data Team, technical teams, subject matter experts and other relevant stakeholders to document current-state reporting challenges, map data sources, define required data models and transformations, and produce a clear roadmap and implementation recommendations. This is a non-implementation role.
Duties and responsibilities
Requirements & Analysis
- Elicit business and reporting requirements through interviews, workshops, and document analysis.
- Document current reporting pain points, unmet needs, duplicated processing, and manual interventions.
- Produce detailed functional and non‑functional requirements for a centralised reporting database.
- Identify and document required data sources, grain, refresh frequency, and key data elements.
Data & Architecture Alignment
- Work with the Development Team and Data Team to conduct an options appraisal, producing a recommendation as to whether Snowflake capabilities align with requirements and is a good fit.
- Produce high-level conceptual and logical data models for the reporting layer.
- Define data quality, lineage, and metadata needs.
Roadmap & Documentation
- Produce requirements specification, source-target mapping (high level), process maps, gap analysis, logical model, and reporting use case catalogue.
- Develop a recommended roadmap for reporting database delivery.
- Present findings to relevant WBS leadership and reporting teams.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Build relationships across reporting teams, analysts, data owners, and academic/administrative units.
- Facilitate workshops and collaborative review sessions.
Skills and experience
- Experience conducting requirements gathering for data or reporting projects.
- Experience with cloud data platforms (e.g., Snowflake, Azure).
- Ability to document processes, data flows, and functional requirements clearly.
- Strong analytical skills with experience using Excel, SQL, or BI tools.
- Understanding of data structures and reporting environments.
- Excellent communication skills for technical and non technical audiences.
- Experience facilitating workshops.
