Role

Unitemps are recruiting for a Research Assistant in Spatial Data Science. This role is for a May 5th start date and has a projected end date of July 31st 2027. This is a full-time role at 35 hours per week. Payment is set at £20.92 per hour + £3.92 holiday pay. This role will be UCL campus based working.
 
Research in the Bartlett Centre for Advanced Spatial Analysis (CASA) focuses on building a science of cities from a multidisciplinary base, drawing on cutting edge methods and ideas in modelling, complexity, visualisation and computation. This is related to the pursuit of solutions to the grand challenges that affect our cities such as climate change, housing and economic development.

Duties and responsibilities

The researcher will be part of a project funded by UCL-Peking University Strategic Partner Funds. The project, titled “Evaluating and mapping global vaccination accessibility and hesitancy: transferring COVID-19 vaccination research to vaccination in active rollout”, aims to leverage spatial analysis and mapping for understanding the global vaccination accessibility and hesitancy. 
 
The candidate is expected to work in co-operation with Dr Huanfa Chen, and this work involves literature review, data collection, constructing interactive data dashboards for mapping vaccination accessibility and hesitancy, and report drafting.
 
Duties and responsibilities:
  • To carry out programming tasks as required to ensure that the project milestones are met and to ensure all code is of a high quality and follows our style guidelines.
  • To carry out any other duties within the scope, spirit, and purpose of the job as requested by the Principal Investigator and Line manager.
  • To perform duties as required by the Head of the Department.

Skills and experience

  • Knowledge & programming experience in Python or other high level programming language
  • A Master’s degree in any relevant subject with expertise in spatial analysis and web visualisation
  • Knowledge in public health, global health, and/or vaccination research
  • Good reliability, motivation and organisational skills in the workplace, able to manage a varied workload whilst still being able to meet strict deadlines and displaying evidence of the ability to complete tasks and projects to a high standard with a minimum of supervision
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience in producing high quality publications, and presenting at scientific conferences
  • Ability to work productively as part of a team
  • A positive and flexible attitude with a willingness to take on new areas of application and to contribute on an equal footing to the development of the research.x
