The Role

The Examinations and Awards team at De Montfort University delivers exams year-round across campus venues. Invigilators ensure exams run fairly, securely, and in line with university procedures.

Working with senior staff, you will support smooth exam delivery while maintaining a professional environment for students. Reliability, punctuality, and strict adherence to procedures are essential.

This is a casual role with variable hours based on the exam timetable. Exams take place regularly due to the block teaching model, and shifts may occur in the morning or afternoon. Invigilators must arrive early to help set up and stay until all duties are completed.

Not suitable for students - however PhD student may be considered

Duties and responsibilities

  • Assist with the preparation of examination venues, including setting out examination papers and materials. 

  • Assist with the distribution and collection of examination materials such as question papers and scripts. 

  • Complete student attendance registers and support student identification procedures where required. 

  • Monitor students during examinations to ensure that examination conditions and university regulations are maintained. 

  • Escort students to toilet facilities where required during an examination. 

  • Act as a point of contact for students during examinations and refer queries to the appropriate member of staff where necessary. 

  • Assist students who may become distressed or unwell during an examination. 

  • Support the controlled entry and exit of students from examination rooms. 

  • Remain vigilant for any suspected academic misconduct and report concerns to a Principal or Senior Invigilator. 

  • Assist with the collection and reconciliation of examination scripts at the end of examinations. 

  • Follow all examination procedures and instructions issued by the Examinations Office at all times. 

Skills and experience

We are looking for individuals who: 

  • Have strong attention to detail 

  • Are able to follow procedures accurately 

  • Have good communication and interpersonal skills 

  • Are reliable and punctual 

  • Are able to remain calm and professional in a formal examination environment 

  • Are able to work flexibly and commit to scheduled examination sessions as required 

  • Must have access to a smartphone or computer and be able to use digital systems confidently to complete forms, timesheets, and other administrative tasks 

Previous invigilation experience is desirable but not essential as training will be provided.
