Role
The role below is only for Middlesex University Students/Alumni
The post holder is responsible for the design and delivery of documentation, communications and training (synchronous and asynchronous) on university systems and for contributing towards a programme to develop and enhance digital skills for both staff and students.
Duties and responsibilities
- Contribute design and content for a Digital Skills training programme for staff and students, utilising existing packages and identifying new resources where appropriate.
- Contribute to teaching Digital Skills as part of this programme and advocating for the use of digital technology in teaching, research and professional activity across the university.
- Support product and business owners with usability testing and use finding to develop documentation and training as well as feeding back results into improvements in systems and digital services.
- Develop and maintain agreed internal communications channels and ensure updated in line with digital skills development priorities.
- Develop a range of content to raise staff and student digital skills and knowledge, using a variety of formats suitable for the purpose.
- To deliver training and online learning resources for staff on key university systems including educational technology platforms (for example Moodle, Kaltura) productivity and collaboration tools (MS Office), the Middlesex University student management database (MISIS) and other key university systems as appropriate.
- Ensuring the Digital Skills programme is highly accessible and meets the needs of the diverse Middlesex communities, helping to address the university strategic aims around EDI.
- Build and manage Digital Skills learning environments and digital learning support, designing and delivering inductions and training in the use of software and platforms, and promotion of these staff and service users.
- Undertake projects and other such duties as required by the Digital Skills and Technology Enhanced Learning Manager.

Education/Qualifications
Essential:
- Educated to degree level or having substantial relevant work experience.
Experience:
Essential:
- Be able to design and produce course materials and other documents such as handouts, manuals and exercises for both face-to-face and online training.
- Experience of developing content for websites, print or other media channels to ensure quality, user-friendly and dynamic content.
- Digitally literate with a good knowledge of digital communication channels and methods.
Desirable
- Experience in designing and delivering training to students and/or staff in an education context.
Knowledge:
Essential:
- A broad working knowledge of the Windows/Apple OS, Microsoft Office Applications, and general IT skills.
Skills:
Essential:
- Strong interpersonal skills and the confidence to engage and influence colleagues at all levels with confidence and credibility.
- Excellent verbal, written, presentation and communication skills.
- The ability to speedily learn new software packages in order to provide appropriate advice to university-wide end users at all levels.
- Self-motivated and highly organised with the ability to prioritise a varied workload, progress a range of projects simultaneously and take personal responsibility for outcomes.
Desirable:
- Experience of using web content management and digital technologies, and a good working understanding of creative software packages (e.g. Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator).
- Multimedia editing skills, including video editing, captioning, presentations, web and other online content.
