Role
Applications are now open for paid Transition and Senior Mentor roles supporting new undergraduate students joining UCL in September 2026.
Transition Mentors support a small group of first-year students in their department through 8 weekly in-person mentoring sessions during Term One, helping them settle into university life, build connections and find their way around UCL.
This is a rewarding and flexible role that allows you to develop leadership, communication and teamwork skills, gain experience for your CV and HEAR record, and make a positive impact on new students.
The programme runs from 28 September – 27 November 2026 (no sessions during Reading Week). Training takes place in late August / early September.
Pay and time commitment:
£14.85 per hour via UCL Unitemps (+£2.78 holiday pay) Up to 16 hours paid work, including: Training (3 hours), Preparation and communication (5 hours), Mentoring sessions (up to 8 hours)
Duties and responsibilities
What you'll do
- Deliver weekly mentoring sessions to a group of first-year students
- Help new students settle into university life and their department
- Share your experience of studying at UCL and signpost students to support services
- Attend training and the Meet Your Mentor session during Induction Week
- Work with your Senior Mentor and provide updates on your mentoring group
