Description

Role
The Student Support and Casework Assistant will work with the Student Experience team within Education Operations to support the operations of the centralised Extenuating Circumstances process. The post holder will provide day-to-day support to efficiently manage student casework relating to Extenuating Circumstances (EC) and delivery of outcomes. The post holder will be required to make full use of IT systems to ensure efficient management and compliance of information and documentation. The post holder will be required to regularly liaise with students and colleagues from across the university, to provide concise and clear information and guidance.

Duties and responsibilities
• Provide information, advice and guidance to students and staff on Extenuating Circumstances (EC) process. 

 
• To manage and answer queries from students and staff, escalating where necessary.
 
• Maintain detailed student records relating to active and archived cases, including student communication, documentation and outcomes.
 
• Liaise with students and staff in a clear and supportive way, to obtain key information or documentation required to process cases.
 
• Support maintenance of accurate assessment schedules to inform outcomes across the academic year.
 
• Ensuring service delivery of responses is within prescribed timeframes.
 
• To aid the smooth facilitation of weekly panel meetings and the preparation of casework paperwork in advance of panel meetings.
 
• Ensure a good working knowledge of university policy and procedure.
 
• To ensure all work is carried out in a professional and timely manner, with appropriate confidentiality and sensitivity.

Skills and experience

Experience 

Previous experience of course/student administration or academic casework in Higher Education

Exceptional customer-service, with experience in identifying and responding to a customer’s needs in a front-facing, busy environment

Knowledge/ Skills

Excellent time management, organisational skills and ability to multitask and respond to changing priorities

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft packages

Ability to work independently and in close collaboration with others

Have a methodical but flexible approach to work, being adaptable and responsive to a culture of continual improvement

A clear, supportive communicator who takes pride in delivering an excellent service

Have a proactive approach, working independently and exercising professional judgement

Qualifications 

Educated to degree level or equivalent
