Role

The Doctoral Education & Academia Centre (DEAR) based in the Department of Education Studies is looking to recruit one Research Assistant to undertake project work with the Centre directors Prof. Emily Henderson and Dr James Burford.

This role will be particularly suited to PGRs who are undertaking research relevant to the DEAR Centre (i.e. projects which focus on doctoral education and/or the academic profession) and to an applicant who has not previously served as a research assistant.

  • This assignment is to start 20/4/26 (or as soon after) until 31/7/26.
  • On-campus work at the Warwick campus in Coventry would be desirable; hybrid working would be considered. Applicants are welcome to apply and discuss travel/working arrangements at interview.
  • This assignment is for 20 hours total (but this amount could be extended).

Duties and responsibilities

With the research centre directors, the post-holder will be assisting with a range of activities, which may include some of the following:

  • Contributing to a desk review of existing scholarship.
  • Undertaking data processing (e.g. processing transcripts) and data analysis.
  • Developing content for the website and social media platforms.
  • Development of user-focused materials (e.g., evaluation package, policy briefings).
  • Collection of engagement and impact data relating to the above activities.

The successful applicant to start as soon as possible.

Skills and experience

  • Applicants should have a postgraduate qualification in education or a related field (e.g., sociology, social policy).
  • The successful candidate will have knowledge of the UK higher education system.
  • Excellent communication, organisation and IT skills are essential.
  • The successful candidate will have a high level of autonomous working capabilities, including with regard to reviewing literature.
  • Some experience of data collection and analysis (e.g., via interviews, group workshops, diary research) is desirable.
  • Evidence of research or practice-focused publications (e.g. policy briefs) and previous experience carrying out knowledge exchange activities will be desirable.
  • At the outset of the project, a skills and training needs analysis will be conducted and a training plan will be established for any skills to be developed.
