Description
Role
The Course Officer is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations and administration of the undergraduate programmes. They will ensure the provision of a proactive, efficient and professional service working closely with relevant professional and academic staff, particularly the Programme Director, in order to maintain and enhance the student experience.
Duties and responsibilities
Excellent communication skills – able to convey information clearly to students, staff, and external partners.
Organisation and time management – manages multiple tasks, deadlines, and course-related processes efficiently.
Responsiveness – handles queries promptly and keeps stakeholders informed.
Attention to detail – ensures accuracy in records, schedules, and student data.
Student-focused approach – supportive, approachable, and committed to enhancing the student experience.
Problem-solving skills – able to resolve issues calmly and effectively.
Teamwork and collaboration – works well with academic staff, administrative teams, and external organisations.
Technical proficiency – confident using systems such as VLEs (e.g., Canvas, SITS, E-Vision), student records systems, and digital tools.
Adaptability – flexible in handling changing priorities and academic cycles.
Professionalism and confidentiality – handles sensitive information appropriately and maintains a high standard of conduct.
Skills and experience
A first degree or equivalent experience
Experience of working in a busy customer focused office environment, multi-tasking and dealing with people from a wide range of backgrounds.
Well-developed verbal and written communication skills
Excellent numeracy skills
Confident in the use of IT systems, particularly the use of MS office packages, spreadsheets and databases.
Ability to analyse problems and identify potential solutions
Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to deal with enquiries effectively and efficiently and with tact and diplomacy
The ability to work with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
Ability to plan and prioritise own work
Ability to take a flexible and proactive approach to work
A flexible approach to change
Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team
Ability to work to under pressure and manage conflicting priorities
Desirable
Experience of working in higher education or a similar sector
Course/programme administration or a similar role
Experience of using SITS
Experience of Moodle (or other VLE)
Committee servicing experience
Ability to compile statistical information and produce reports
